RA cycles to ADE to support Bridges For Music

Our very special guest on this week’s Source to Cycle is https://soundcloud.com/timo-maas.

Timo has been a dominant figure on the electronic scene for many years now. Hailing from the small town of Buckeburg in Germany, Timo was DJing in the local clubs and in nearby Hannover from the age of 15. As rave culture took off in Germany, Timo latched on to this new musical revolution, DJing not only in his native Germany but also around Europe. Productions followed, and by the end of the 1990s, Timo was a cranking out releases and big remixes for artists like Azzido Da Bass, Green Velvet, Depeche Mode, Fatboy Slim and many more.

A resident DJ at Ibiza’s DC10 for over ten years, and a DJ schedule that covers the world, Timo is currently busy with his label Rockets & Ponies, a newly released mix album on the My Favourite Robot label, and plenty of DJ dates…

International Feel is five years old this week. The time has flown by and as a thank you to everyone that’s supported the label over the years, this week, I’ll be uploading a few tracks that were never released for download.

This first one was done at the same time as the Sketches album sessions.

THANK YOU !

Life on Planets is a duo that met in the studio lofts of their east coast hometown, whereby a collaboration fusing indie artrock and electronic music began to take shape. It was a pairing of two dramatically different personas, merging as one for a serendipitous, romantic sound that’s now been signed to the Double Standard label.

Life On Planets have recently released an EP ‘A Public Affair’ which has been hugely popular with 25000 listens on soundcloud in just two weeks! The group have been signed to the label Wolf + Lamb which is home to the likes of Soul Clap, No Regular Play, Deniz Kurtel, Slow Hands, Wolf + Lamb, Voices of Black and more!

To celebrate the success of this EP, Life On Planets have done a mix for DJ Mag which you can listen to below. The mix has some really cool tracks in it and great smooth transitions, our highlight of the mix is when the Hot Chip remix of Foals - My Number is introduced.

NAOME is the new LP project from CircoLoco veteran Andrew Grant and the first fruits of it is the single, ‘Belly of the Beast’, released on My Favorite Robot Records with remixes from Villanova and Jori Hulkkonen in tow.

Debuting in September with an LP slated for late 2014, NAOME (Not Andrew Only Me) sees Grant move away from the techno and house into more esoteric sounds, exploring musical themes outside of a club environment.

The NAOME project has been cultivated to co-exist alongside his Andrew Grant name with the sole purpose of exploring new sounds and ideas for enjoyment at home or day to day but in his own words - “this is a chance for me to break away from the club sound and explore the other side of the pillow”.

Title track ‘Belly of the Beast’ shimmers into life through dusty percussion and an oscillating hook, the dry-pulsating beats and the subdued vox from Sutja Gutierrez sublimely meander alongside shimmering tones to whisk the listener off on an ambient journey laced in cinematic atmospherics.

For the second offering Turbo affiliate and Acid Symphony Orchestra head honcho Jori Hulkkonen steps up for remix duty. Jori’s polished production ability crafted over a career that spans more than two decades really shines through in this deep and melodic re-imagining. Sutja’s almost demonic vocal purrs along throughout proceedings while warm pulsating bass washes over shifting percussive patterns and a dancing 303 line to dish up a dynamic and emotive cut.

The Parisian pair known as Villanova deliver two transcendent remixes to close the EP off in style, their dreamlike Fretless version incorporates a beautifully basic bass arrangement alongside sooty percussion and extended tones to offer up a ethereal third track while their Sigma remix employs industrial grindings, craggy booms

Our next installment of the tied podcast series is delivered by a friend and past tied guest DJ, Andrew Grant. Andrew made the move to Spain from the US where he runs his label and works on his productions. His talent in the studio is celebrated by releases on imprints such as Little Helpers, Supplement Facts, Better on Foot and My Favorite Robot. As a DJ, Andrew Grant is one of the very few Circoloco Residents at Ibiza’s DC10, where he works up dance floors alongside international acts such as Apollonia, The Martinez Brothers and Seth Troxler. We are therefore thrilled to have Andrew provide us with a stellar moody deep mix that was recorded live at the DC10 Garden earlier this summer!
